Life doesn't stop because you have an illness - patients with a life-limiting condition who are being looked after at home but who are still well enough to leave the house can attend Day Hospice at the new Northern Ireland Hospice on Somerton Road in North belfast and Ballymoney. Day Hospice offers a range of therapies and services, allowing patients to meet new people, share their experiences, manage their symptoms and participate in new activities. Families also get a break too.
Therapeutic activities on offer at Day Hospice include:
- Creative therapies such as arts and crafts, creative writing, interactive music therapy, reminiscence therapy and discussion groups.
- Recreational activities including trips, entertainment and quizzes.
- Wellbeing activities including hairdressing, beauty and chiropody.
Patients in Day Hospice also have the opportunity to consult with and avail of the expertise of the full range of clinical staff in Hospice, as well as receiving advice from external organisations such as Citizens Advice Bureau.
If required, the excellent team of Day Hospice volunteer drivers can collect patients in the morning and take them home when Day Hospice is over. For patients who have difficulty getting in and out of a car, the hospice mini-bus has a hydraulic lift and is wheelchair friendly.
